Local veterans and active duty military personnel will be honored on Veterans Day, Nov. 11 through a special nationwide promotion by Applebee's.
According to the national office of Applebee's in Lenexa, Kan., the restaurant is "saying thank you to the nation's veterans and active duty military by inviting them for a free entree" at all Applebee's locations.
Locally, Maysville Applebee's General Manager Jennifer Riggs confirmed the restaurant is participating in the program and said the offer of a free entrée is available all day on Veterans Day on a "dining-in" basis: carry-out orders are not eligible.
'We are doing this because we are good neighbors, and community service is part of the Applebee's culture," said Riggs.
"Applebee's is honored to serve those who serve our country," said Mike Archer, president of Applebee's Services, Inc. "It's our way of saying thank you to the men and women who keep our 'neighborhoods' safe. They are America's real heroes."
Last year, a limited number of Applebee's restaurants tested offering military personnel a free meal on Veterans Day, but because the response was so positive, every U.S. restaurant is extending the invitation this year, company officials said.
Military personnel will be able to choose an entrée from six menu favorites at the Maysville location: a 7-oz. sirloin steak with two sides, the New Fire Pit Bacon Burger, the Three Cheese Chicken Penne, Oriental Chicken Salad, Fiesta Lime Chicken, and the Chicken Tenders Platter.
Eligibility will be established by presenting servers with a veteran's or military ID as proof of service or active duty. Identification includes: U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform or wearing uniform.
