You can damage a stone wall with a large hammer, and it is easy to level a five-story building using bulldozers and wrecking balls. But when you are called upon to bring down a large structure, say a huge building like the 14 story Frontier Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, you have to bring in the heavy artillery.
Explosive demolition is the preferred process for safely and efficiently demolishing larger structures. When a building is surrounded by other buildings, it may be necessary to "implode" the building, that is, make it cave in down to ground level.
Below is how they do it in Las Vegas. Not just a boring implosion but well choreographed production for all to remember. I wonder if they charged admission for this.
