PusterBill has built a simple analog calculator made out of LEGOs. It can add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Must have been a slow day at work!

A couple of details for those wanting to built one for themselves:
  • The four main gears are marked "Z24", and the big gear is marked "Z40".
  • The small gear has 8 teeth.
  • The operating position and the ones digit of the result are split into 36 degree segments, while the tens digit of the result is split into 72 degree segments.
  • Are you with me here?

Bill works as a computer programmer for a local college. He's not always this eccentric but now that I think about it, maybe he is.

I know you'll all want to run to the store, buy some Lego's and make your own. This would be a nice school project for your math loving student.

Pass this along to all your email, facebook and social network buddies.
